Celebrating Black History Month
Fifth grade students explore the Silhouettes of Success interactive display.

In honor of Black History Month, fourth and fifth graders in Eagle Assembly, the Lower School student leadership program, created an interactive display, "Silhouettes for Success." Students in the program researched 33 successful Black Alabamians, created a fact sheet, and chose a silhouette that symbolizes something about the person. Lower School classes then visited the display to learn more about these local heroes-- the fourth grade Alabama History class even created a scavenger hunt by writing clues for other classes to use when they visited the display.

In the Wilson Theater on the Vaughn Road Campus, Upper School students Jai Ivy RainesClaire Gary, Cydney Pepple, Chelsea Trimble, and Zoe Zink created "A Gallery Walk - Black Excellence on Display" that showcased the contributions of famous Black historical figures in the arts, technology and engineering, and science and math. Middle and Upper School History and English classes visited the interactive exhibition.
