Library Aide

Garzon Library Program: The Garzon Library is a two-story building that serves students, faculty, and parents of the Montgomery Academy (MA). The ground story houses over 19,000 circulating items and has computers and printing for student use. The second story has 3 study rooms, a technology-rich instructional room, and a large flexible learning area. Throughout the library building there are spaces for individual, small and large groups. The Garzon Library staff connects MA patrons to physical and digital information, supports curricular needs by acquiring materials and information, promotes reading, teaches Information Literacy in conjunction with content learning, and runs the school supply store. They maintain a physical space for: research, instruction, group learning/projects, Honor Council sessions, a book fair, student work displays, tutoring, testing, and after school care. It is open before and after school on days when school is in session.
 
Position Summary: The Library Aide works no more than 18 hours a week to ensure smooth and efficient operation of the library program and sets daily priorities based on knowledge of the overall function of the library and performs work as assigned by the Librarian.
 
Duties and Responsibilities: 
  • Supervise and assist students in the library
  • Plan, initiate and complete the clerical and administrative activities related to the operation of the library
  • Shelve books and other library materials
  • Maintain patron records to include overdue notices
  • Process new library materials with protective coverings
  • Maintain library cleanliness and order
  • Create book displays
  • Coordinate and train library volunteers (student and parent)
  • Support reading promotion programs & activities, including book clubs
  • Complete additional duties assigned by the Librarian

Required Skills & Experience:

  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Attention to detail
  • Skill in operating iOS devices and peripheral equipment
  • Exercise tact, good judgment, and initiative in dealing with students, faculty, and the public
  • Perform several tasks concurrently under varying deadlines
  • Classroom management

Desired Qualities & Experience:

  • Previous relevant experience in an educational and/or library setting
  • Google for Education applications
  • Research skills
  • Dewey Decimal System
