Lower School Learning Specialist

Summary of the Position: Reporting to the Lower School Division Director, the Lower School Learning Specialist is responsible for helping ensure that students’ individual academic and behavioral needs are met and for supporting faculty’s work with students with various needs.
 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Be an advocate for students with learning differences or mild behavioral needs
  • Work with the division director, counselor, and teachers to monitor student progress
  • Support teachers in working with struggling students (including educating faculty on learning differences, mild behavioral needs, and differentiated instruction strategies that benefit all students)
  • Review student reports from psychoeducational testing and communicate with private psychologists as needed
  • Lead the interactive process for developing accommodations plans for students with diagnosed areas of need
  • Manage implementation of accommodation plans
  • Provide individual and small group instruction
  • Collect and use data to inform instructional decision-making
  • Participate in parent/teacher conferences as needed

Qualifications:

  • Experience in special education or related field
  • Holds a degree and or certification in special education or related field
  • Master’s degree preferred
  • Orton-Gillingham training preferred
