Middle School Spanish
Summary of the Position: World language instruction is a core academic area at The Montgomery Academy. We offer classes in Spanish, French, and Latin. Spanish instruction begins as an enrichment opportunity at the Lower School and begin full-time language study in the 7th grade. Students are required to complete three consecutive years of study in a single language in the Upper School. We offer introductory sections of Spanish through both AP level Spanish courses.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach five sections of Spanish
- Maintain a course website
- Serve as an advisor
- Effectively integrate appropriate educational technology (including iPads & SMARTBoards) into the curriculum
- Work closely and effectively with other Spanish teachers to ensure that the curriculum flows smoothly from course to course
- Integrate the language of leadership and character development into the classroom
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Spanish, advanced degree preferred
- Independent school teaching experience in Spanish preferred
- Experience in foreign language pedagogy, particularly in a communicative approach
- Creative, enthusiastic and growth-mindset approach to 21st century learning
- Experience in the use of educational technology
- Commitment to holistic student development
- Commitment to the developmental support for Middle and Upper School students
