The Admissions Office is located on our Vaughn Road Campus. When visiting, please park in our visitor parking in front of the Garzon Library. Check in with our Receptionist in Hill Hall (doors are located by the flag pole).

Admission to The Montgomery Academy is competitive. The Academy’s Admissions Committee seeks to enroll well-rounded students with above-average intelligence that are ambitious, and seek the strong academic and personal character necessary for a life of service and achievement.

Families who send their children to independent private schools cite that they do so because of: individual attention, limited class sizes, teacher excellence, high academic standards, a focus on the arts, athletics and academics and most importantly: quality.

Test scores are not the only criteria the Admissions Committee considers when making a decision. However, most of the Academy’s students perform at above-average levels. Therefore, the Admissions Committee uses entrance test scores to determine the potential success that a student may have if enrolling at our school. The Admissions Committee considers test scores, teacher recommendations, current school grades, special talents, and how a child will benefit and add to the school when making a decision.

There are several options for out-of-town applicants to take the entrance exam. Arrangements can be made for applicants in grades 2-12 to take the ISEE in your hometown, even overseas!

We can also arrange for a proctor to administer the test. For Kindergarten applicants, we can help you locate a licensed educational psychologist who can administer the test in your area.

Please call the Admissions Office for more information. We do not want your location to hinder your application to The Montgomery Academy and our Admissions Office will make the process as simple as possible for our out-of-town applicants.

The best thing you can do is to trust the process, have forms submitted in a timely manner and try not to place undue stress on the applicant. The admissions process is designed to give the Admissions Committee the best overall picture of your child and to determine the likelihood of their success at The Montgomery Academy. Encourage your child to try hard on the entrance exam, to maintain good grades and good behavior at their current school.

We welcome prospective students to join us for a Shadow Day if they would like to experience "a day in the life at MA!" We invite them to spend the day with a current MA student who shares their interests and attend classes, explore our campus, and enjoy lunch with classmates. To arrange a date for your student to shadow, please contact our Admissions Office.

The interview is informal, and your child may wear their typical school clothes to the interview. Tell your child that the interviewers are seeking to learn more about him or her, so prepare them to talk about interests he or she may have.

We challenge our students to excel academically, but we also believe that it is important for a student to receive a well-rounded education. Therefore, there are plenty of opportunities for our students to participate in the arts, both visual and performing and in our many athletic teams or in our clubs.

The Academy experience is inclusive and we have students from different socio-economic, religious, and cultural backgrounds. This diversity adds to the strength of our entire program. For specific diversity numbers, please contact the Admissions Office.

Students in Grades 7-12 can participate on a Montgomery Academy team.  The Montgomery Academy has a variety of teams that compete through the Alabama High School Athletic Association.  For eligibility information, please see below from the Alabama High School Athletic Association:

• A new student transferring from another AHSAA Member School in Montgomery will not be eligible the first year.
• A new student must live within the city limits of Montgomery.
• A new student must not receive Financial Aid.
• A new student moving into Montgomery must make a bonafide move with the entire family.

Lower School (Grades K-5): 8:10 a.m. - 3:10 p.m., with drop-off starting at 7:15 a.m.

Middle and Upper School (Grades 6-12): 8:00 a.m. - 3:15 p.m., with drop-off starting at 7:30 a.m.

Yes, the Lower School MA+ program (Grades K-4) is available from school dismissal until 5:30 p.m. Our Middle School MS+ program (Grades 5-8) is available from school dismissal until 5:30 p.m.  More information about our after-school programs can be found here.
