Upper School Chemistry & Physics

Summary of the Position:

The Montgomery Academy is seeking a teacher for chemistry and physics courses in the Upper School beginning in August of 2018. The primary responsibility for this position will be chemistry, but candidates should also be able to teach a basic conceptual physics course as well. A full teaching load at Montgomery Academy is 5 sections per semester.

Essential Duties and responsibilities

  • Teach multiple sections of general high school chemistry & physics (possibly 2-3 preparations)
  • Maintain a course website
  • Effectively integrate appropriate educational technology (including iPads) into the curriculum
  • Work closely and effectively with other science teachers to ensure that the curriculum flows smoothly from course to course
  • Integrate the language of leadership and character development into the classroom


  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry or another appropriate academic field, advanced degree preferred
  • Experience in teaching Chemistry
  • Knowledgeable in maintaining a chemistry lab
  • Comfort in teaching conceptual physics and in creating lab experiments for the course
  • Independent school teaching experience preferred
  • Creative, enthusiastic and growth-mindset approach to 21st century learning
  • Experience in the use of educational technology
  • Commitment to holistic student development
