Varsity Head Swim Coach
Summary of the Position: The Montgomery Academy is seeking a skilled, dynamic and experienced swim coach to oversee the effective administration and growth of all aspects of the swimming program. The Head Swim Coach position is not a full-time position unless combined with another administrative or teaching duty at the school.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Analyze, demonstrate, and explain basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of swimming.
- Instruct student-athletes in the safety practices associated with swimming.
- Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
- Recruit, train, and supervise assistant coaches in conjunction with the Director of Athletics.
- Understand and implement all appropriate rules and regulations according to AHSAA guidelines.
- Work with administrators and faculty to plan and implement instructional goals and objectives to ensure the overall educational development of student-athletes.
- Maintain proper control and discipline in a positive manner by establishing good, wholesome rapport through healthy, professional relationships among students involved in athletic programs.
- Monitor and enforce student-athlete eligibility criteria for extracurricular participation.
- Establish and maintain open communication with parents/guardians, students, other coaches, administrators, and faculty.
- Work with the Director of Athletics to schedule competitions and coordinate travel arrangements.
- Instruct student-athletes in the proper care and use of materials and equipment.
- Oversee the process of ordering, cleaning, repairing, and/or storing athletic equipment and uniforms, if necessary.
- Accompany and supervise student-athletes during athletic competitions in swimming during away meets.
- Apply and enforce student discipline during athletic contests, practice sessions, and while on trips off school property in accordance with the student handbook.
- Encourage sportsmanlike conduct in all phases of athletic participation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- At least two to four years of swim coaching experience is required. Experience in an independent school setting is preferred.
- Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
- A commitment to The Montgomery Academy's mission and core values.
- Knowledge of current best practices in athletic administration, including compliance with AHSAA regulations.
- Ability to collaborate effectively with students, parents, faculty, staff, and community stakeholders.
- Ability to contribute to another significant teaching/administrative duty at the school.
