Collaborative Accompanist: Middle & Upper School Music

Summary of the Position: With this position, we are seeking an individual to serve as a collaborative accompanist for our choral ensembles for students in grades 5-12. This individual’s primary responsibility would be to provide piano accompaniment to the Upper School Chorus during their rehearsals each week and in their performances and competitions. This individual would also be asked to provide occasional support for our Middle School ensembles – particularly in preparation for and during public concerts that require piano accompaniment.
About MA’s Choral Music Program: The Upper School Chorus is open to students in grades 9-12. The chorus performs a wide variety of repertoire from renaissance to contemporary and has consistently received "Superior" ratings at District, State and National Festivals. In recent years, they have had successful tours in South Carolina, Louisiana, Georgia, Tennessee, Texas, New York, California and Florida, and they performed at the American Choral Directors Association (ACDA) 2014 Southern Division conference in Jacksonville, Florida.
At the Middle School level, there are two choral ensembles (a 5th/6th grade treble chorus and a 7th/8th grade chorus), that performs for student assemblies and sings in two major public concerts each school year. Students also participate in the All-State Choral Festival and Choral Performance Assessments.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide piano accompaniment support for Upper School Chorus class meetings each week during the school year. The class meets 3 days per week (one 50-minute block and two 85-minute blocks)
  • Provide accompaniment support for the Upper School Chorus as needed during public performances and competitions. There are two public performances each school year in December and May. A schedule of other performances and competitions will be provided by the choral director.
  • Provide accompaniment support for Middle School choral ensembles as needed just prior to public performances, during performances and competitions.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Piano, Music, Music Education (advanced degree preferred)
  • Strong piano accompaniment skills (preferred)
  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills with a calm, patient and professional demeanor
  • Comfortable in supporting a variety of choral genres for different ages

This position will be compensated on a per-hour basis with a rate commensurate with educational background and experience.
