Campus Life
I’m Mitchell Parrish and I’m the Student Council President. I have been at The Montgomery Academy since Kindergarten, and have thoroughly enjoyed my experience here. My triplet siblings also have attended MA since Kindergarten and all four of us could speak for days about how influential the school has been in our lives.
In the Upper School, students often take advantage of the nearly twenty AP classes. Not only do they challenge students and force them to think, but the courses also help students compile solid resumes for the college application process. I have had some of the best teachers in the state push me to perform my best on the AP exams.
In each of my courses, I have learned to be honest, hardworking, and driven. Responsibility is another key component to Academy life. It has been a personal goal of mine because it is so highly demanded in and out of the classroom. Also, I have been involved in a wide array of extracurricular activities including Forensics, athletics, Youth in Government, and the annual school Battle of the Bands. I believe that The Montgomery Academy is great environment students who want to try a multitude of activities.
Athletics has been another large part of my Academy life. I have played basketball since the seventh grade and dabbled in golf, football and soccer. I love to compete and always see lots of support from my peers and faculty. Friday nights are the times where I can really show my school spirit supporting my friends on the football team. There is always a great student turnout, even when we play away.
With college just around the corner, I find myself contacting the college advisors constantly. They work tirelessly to ensure that we meet deadlines, write essays, and polish our resumes. Also, the homeroom advisors are very helpful when it comes to time management and just having a faculty member who knows you as well as a parent or sibling and can push you to be the best that you can be.
Lastly, the new Sahlie Commons has become a haven for students. Whether you have a huge test, some last minute homework, or a good story, the Commons has a place for you. I use it everyday for a variety of reasons and I think that I speak for the entire student body when I say that it is one of the best additions to the school. Another new addition is the Wilson Theater, which is similar to the Octagon at Alabama Shakespeare Festival, students get a chance to act in a state-of-the art venue, complete with modern soundboards and professional lights. The two plays that have appeared in the new theater have attracted many newcomers to the acting field, and many more to the audience.
I encourage you to visit and consider The Montgomery Academy. I think I speak for everyone here when I say that you will have a rewarding educational experience.
Sincerely,
Mitchell Parrish
