Performing Arts at the Academy
The Performing Arts Department at The Montgomery Academy enriches the lives of the students by providing a multitude of opportunities through which students can explore the various modes of human performance. Three major areas comprise the Performing Arts Department: Forensics (Speech & Debate), Music, and Drama. The faculty members of the Performing Arts Department strongly believe that students' skills in these modes of performance are developed through intense work in the classroom and through opportunities for public performance and competition. As a result of the work done by the Performing Arts faculty, the Academy's student performers frequently earn local, regional, and national recognition. Furthermore, the department has become a source of thoughtful entertainment for the Academy community and for the Montgomery area at large. Regardless of whether Academy students will choose to pursue college majors or careers in the Performing Arts, the department believes that exposure to the Performing Arts is critical for the development of the types of collaborative and creative skills that Academy students will need to survive and thrive in the increasing competitive market of the 21st century. Moreover, exposure to the Performing Arts creates an appreciation for the arts that will enrich our students' understanding of the human experience throughout their lives.
