English as a Second Language (ESL) Program
Mission Statement
The
mission of the ESL Program at The Montgomery Academy is to promote
individual growth and potential development for students whose first
language is not English and to aid them in gaining access to English
language instruction. This program aids students in developing their
academic potential and achieving their personal goals as individuals.
It also helps both students and teachers enrich their lives and
establish respectful and caring relationships.
Our Vision
The
Montgomery Academy ESL Program fosters respect for ESL students and
their contributions to the school, has a well-informed understanding of
school policies, and is a place where ESL students will be able to
receive the support they need to develop academically.
Implementation of ESL Program
The
2006-2007 academic year was the first year the program was implemented.
It began in the Upper School and is expanding to the Middle and Lower
Schools.
Goal
To help enable international students to use English to achieve academically in all content areas.
Standards for Goal
- Students will use English to interact in the classroom.
- Students will use English to obtain, process, construct, and provide subject matter information in spoken and written form.
- Students will use appropriate learning strategies to construct and apply academic knowledge.
